Blinkers key to upset victory
24 Sep 2015A piece of advice from jockey Kane Smith paved the way for Godzilla Girl’s upset win at Otaki this afternoon.
The Jack Scott-trained Goodwood Stud graduate claimed the NZB Insurance Pearl Series race at odds of 36-1.
“I rode her at Manawatu when she ran last and I came in and said to Jack to put blinkers on her,” Smith said.
The Chinese Dragon mare duly responded to the addition of headgear for the second win of her career.
“She had been out spelling for a while and she’s taken a bit of work to get ready,” Scott said.
Godzilla Girl is out of Maplewood, a half-sister by Oregon to the stakes winner Pearly Gates.
It is also the family of the dual Group One winning sprinter Bawalaksana (Railway, Telegraph Handicaps).
