About us

Goodwood stud is a progressive boutique stud focusing on breeding quality racehorses for sales throughout Australasia.

William Fell, the Stud master of Goodwood Stud is keeping the dynasty alive as the third generation of Fells to be involved in the breeding industry.

It all started with Williams Grandfather, Arthur Fell, who created Fairdale stud in 1949. Since then under the Fairdale banner the Fell family have bred or raced over 208 black type winners, including the Melbourne and Auckland Cup, Cox Plate, Epsom Handicap, Oaks, BMW stakes, The Doncaster to name a few. Another highlight for Fairdale was the purchase of Pakistan II who went on to be the champion New Zealand and Australia combined sire three times.

After school William went overseas and gained extensive experience in Ireland, England, America and Australia in all facets of the industry. Upon his return in 2007 it was decided Rex and Gerald (Arthur’s sons) would split to give their sons William and Duncan a chance to run their own stud each, which is when William and Rex created Goodwood Stud. Sadly, Rex passed away in 2016 and is hugely missed within the industry.

In the short time Goodwood have been operating they have proven they are on the right track with their vision of breeding quality racehorses where so far they have bred a number of black type performers in Gingernuts, Serena Miss, Order Again, Jetset Lad and Barbaric.

Located on the outskirts of Palmerston North on 250 acres of prime Manawatu horse country Goodwood Stud truly is a horse haven.
