Villiers Future Target for Thumbtacks
04 Sep 2012Thumbtacks Bred by Goodwood stud in partnership with fairdale stud has earned himself a break and a crack at a prestige race on his return following his latest Rosehill success.
The winner of more than $A400,000, the Fairdale Stud product will be set for the Gr 2 Villiers Stakes in December.
“He’ll definitely go to the paddock now and get ready for the Villiers,” trainer Chris Waller said.
“Up until this all his best form has been at Warwick Farm, which is why we’re looking at the Villiers.
“He’s learned how to win and is a sound and happy horse that has just kept improving.”
The Pins six-year-old has proved both a model of consistency and grand earner for the stable.
“He’s a consistent horse and has never raced in open company,” Waller said.
“That’s a good thing for Sydney racing, and the way it is set up, if an owner can win that much money without taking on the best horses.”
Thumbtacks was due to go for a spell after his victory at Warwick Farm last Saturday, but Waller decided to give the gelding one more start and it proved successful.
In the hands of Kiwi apprentice Jason Collett, he beat the Darley runner Soledad for his eighth victory.
