Gingernuts romps away with Guineas
18 Mar 2017Goodwood Stud celebrated Group One glory in Sydney this afternoon when their star graduate Gingernuts continued his winning roll.
The New Zealand Derby hero produced another commanding performance to run away with the Rosehill Guineas.
“That was a huge win,” rider Opie Bosson said. “He jumped a bit slowly but he soon got into a nice rhythm.”
The son of Ifraaj settled toward the back of the field before Bosson made his move 800 metres from home.
“He was cruising on the turn and I knew I had a very fit horse under me,” he said.
“He even pricked his ears and started gawking around in the straight.”
That effort has seen Gingernuts’ odds tumble for the upcoming Gr.1 Australian Derby.
“He looks like he’ll be hard to beat in two weeks’ time,” said Jamie Richards, who trains Gingernuts with Stephen Autridge.
“It was a great effort and I’m really pleased for the team at home.”
Richards said he had no pre-race concerns about the heavy ground Gingernuts encountered at Rosehill.
“He galloped at Matamata last Saturday on a similar track and he got through it – he can go on anything.
“This is a huge buzz and it’s just great to be part of it.”
