Wai Not ends campaign in good style
25 Sep 2015
Wai Not went out on a high note when he triumphed in the Baggy Hillis Memorial Steeples at Te Aroha.
The hardy son of Riviera broke his maiden over the big fences at Wanganui last week and today doubled his tally.
“He can go out now and we’ll bring him back before Christmas and get him ready for Oakbank.” trainer John Wheeler said.
Bred by Goodwood Stud, Wai Knot picked up six placings from eight Australian starts earlier this year.
“I’ve always had a lot of time for this horse and it’s very satisfying to see him come to it like this,” Wheeler said.
The Von Doussa, Great Eastern Steeplechases and Grand National Steeplechases are all likely targets for Wai Not next year.
The eight-year-old is out of the Howbaddouwantit mare Not Now, a half-sister to the Gr 1 Auckland Cup placegetter Wigan Prince.
