Smooth performance from Runway
12 Apr 2015Goodwood Stud-bred mare Runway added another string to her bow at Awapuni this afternoon.
Any doubts that she might struggle in heavy ground were dispelled with a commanding Rating 65 victory.
The John Wheeler-trained four-year-old was a deserved winner after placing, with little luck in running, at her last two starts.
“She had been knocking on the door so we were pretty confident,” stable representative Cory Perrett said.
“The track was a bit of a concern, but she got through it really well.”
By Pins, Runway is out of the Generous mare Double Elle, herself the winner of five races.
It is the family of The Pooka, a Gr 1 NZ 2000 Guineas winner for Wheeler, and the Gr 1 WA Oaks winner Trappings.
