Jonquil opens Goodwood double
21 Feb 2015Well-related filly Jonquil added further winning form to her Group One family when she broke through at Otaki this afternoon.
The daughter of Sakhee’s Soldier capped off an encouraging start to her career when she trumped her older rivals at her fifth raceday appearance.
Jonquil, who had placed in three of her previous four outings for trainer Ashley Meadows, came with a sustained finish to open her account.
The three-year-old’s success set up a winning double for Goodwood Stud today , with fellow graduate Serena Miss claiming the Gr 2 Matamata Breeders Stakes.
Jonquil is out of the Danasinga mare Spring Dancer, who is a half-sister to the triple top-flight winner Daffodil (AJC Oaks, NZ 1000 Guineas, Windsor Park Plate).
It is also the family of Good Faith (Gr 1 Ellerslie Sires’ Produce Stakes), Believe Yourself (Gr 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes) and Tully Dane (Gr 3 McNeil Stakes).
