Fried Rice posts tasty win
01 Nov 2014He might not have the most glamourous name, but Fried Rice looks capable of making his mark in better company.
The four-year-old capped off a genuine run of form when he thumped his maiden rivals at Awapuni this afternoon.
Trained by part-owner Kylie Little, Fried Rice had weighed in at his three previous starts before his breakthrough victory.
“I had to use him a bit early from the draw, but I wasn’t worried – I knew I was on the fittest horse,” rider Jonathan Riddell said.
Fried Rice kicked strongly in the straight to open his winning account at his fifth appearance.
Riddell said the Chinese Dragon four-year-old would have no trouble coping with more ground than today’s mile.
Fried Rice was purchased for $2500 out of Goodwood Stud’s 2012 Festival Sale draft at Karaka.
He is out of the Pins mare Hasta Luego and is from the family of the former influential stallion Kaoru Star.
