Goodwood family to fore
12 Jul 2014A family well known to Goodwood Stud enjoyed further success at Avondale this afternoon in the feature two-year-old event.
Sherpa is a son of the former resident stallion Chinese Dragon and the Centaine mare Gypsy Rose.
The stud has sold a number of her progeny at Karaka, including Sherpa’s winning brother Hot Cha.
It is a pedigree that features the Gr 1 Epsom Handicap winner Rock Kingdom, who was also a multiple placegetter at the top level.
Sherpa is trained by Alan Tait and had placed at Te Teko before he opened his account in the Swiss Ace 2YO Challenge.
Ridden by Sam Collett, the gelding rallied strongly in the straight to defeat the highly-regarded Asprey.
