Barbaric ‘perfect’ for Telegraph
16 Jan 2014

Stephen Marsh is unconcerned after Goodwood Stud’s Barbaric drew gate 10 for Saturday’s Gr 1 Telegraph Handicap at Trentham.

“It’s not always the most important race to get a good draw,” the Cambridge trainer said.

“He’s got a lot of brilliance and such a good turn of foot that the straight six at Trentham suits him.

“The Telegraph has always been the race for him, he is so much better left-handed. I think he will eventually get a mile, but this is the race for him now.”

Barbaric has won five of his 11 races with his latest success coming last time out in the Listed Levin Stakes in November.

“We’ve got him in with the perfect weight and that’s why we haven’t raced him since,” Marsh said.

“All is super with him, his feet are in perfect order and he’s feeling 100 per cent.

“He had a really good hit-out in company on the course proper on Saturday morning and he his work was just brilliant. He hasn’t missed a beat.”
