02 Aug 2013Howbaddouwantit opened his tally for the new season at Avondale this afternoon when River City posted a deserved win.
Goodwood Stud’s resident sire produced 18 individual winners in 2012-13 to emphasise the value he offers at $3000 + GST.
River City had placed in two of her three previous runs and was a dominant winner today for trainer Stephen Marsh.
She was tardily away to settle midfield on the fence and once clear in the straight she was far too good.
“She missed away and got into an awkward spot in quite tight quarters, but she got a deserved win,” Marsh said.
River City was ridden by Alex Forbes, who said he was confident of victory a fair way out.
“She travelled up nicely and I was always going to win from the top of the straight.”
River City is the first foal of the Exploding Prospect mare Lightning Lass, the winner of four races from Marsh’s stable.
