Gold Cape strikes at Hastings
04 May 2013Improved underfoot conditions were a key to Gold Cape’s return to winning form in the Hawke’s Bay this afternoon.
Unsuited by the soft going at Te Rapa at her previous start, she was back to her best at Hastings to post her sixth career victory.
The Cape Cross mare, who is part-owned by Rex Fell, came with a well-timed finish to account for the Group One winner Artistic.
She is trained at New Plymouth by John Wheeler and may now be in line for a trip to the Queensland winter carnival.
Gold Cape is a daughter of an American-bred mare who also has winning progeny in France, Australia and Hong Kong.
Their dam Seeking the Gold boasts an international pedigree and is a half-sister to the Group winner and sire Mujtahid.
