Serpent chasing Australian feature
10 Apr 2013

The Goodwood Stud-bred and sold Serpent will make his Australian debut at Flemington this Saturday in the Listed A$120,000 Galilee Final.

“Brad Rawiller will ride him and he rode him in his work on Wednesday and was very happy with him,” co-trainer Andrew Forsman said.

“He’ll run on Saturday and as long as he goes well the immediate aim then will be the St Leger.”

Another Listed event worth A$151,500, it will be run over 2800 metres at Flemington on Anzac Day, April 25.

Serpent has not raced since he completed a hat-trick of wins with victory against the older horses in the Listed Lincoln Lodge New Zealand St Leger.

“We were 50-50 about sending him to Australia as it’s his first serious preparation, but we’ve always liked the horse and he deserves his chance,” Forsman said.

“He went through a bit of a flat patch in the spring when he was still growing and he’ll continue to strengthen and get better.”
